What are the Albertina's opening hours over Christmas 2026?

Open every day: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 24 December, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on 25 December and 1 January, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 26 and 31 December.

Both late nights fall on a Friday this year, the museum's regular late-opening day, which is why Christmas Day and New Year's Day run until 9 p.m. Albertina Modern keeps 6 p.m. on every holiday except the 24th, when both venues close at 2 p.m.

The days in between follow the normal pattern: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday at the Albertina. There is no Monday closing.

Is the Albertina open on Christmas Eve?

Yes, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albertina and at Albertina Modern.

Four hours is enough for the State Rooms and one or two exhibitions, not for everything. Arrive at opening and start with the show you care about most. Picasso - Bacon is the busiest room this season; the State Rooms and Monet to Chagall can wait for another day.

Remember that most of the city slows down after lunch on the 24th. The Rathausplatz market closes at 6:30 p.m. that day and the Belvedere's K&K market at 5 p.m.

Is the Albertina open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day?

Yes. On 31 December both venues open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On 1 January the Albertina opens 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Albertina Modern 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We like New Year's Day for a museum visit: the late opening leaves time for the State Rooms after the exhibitions. The museum's own advice for holidays: come between 1 and 3 p.m. or in the evening.

This is also the last stretch for two shows. Otto Meets Albertina and Vasarely & Adrian at Albertina Modern both close on 10 January 2027, so the holidays are your window.

Is Albertina Klosterneuburg open over Christmas?

No. Albertina Klosterneuburg is closed from 16 November 2026 to March 2027, so it is shut for the whole holiday season.

How do you plan an Albertina visit around the Christmas markets?

Pair it with Art Advent on Karlsplatz, next to Albertina Modern, or with the markets at Am Hof and Rathausplatz, both a short walk away. Most markets end on 23 or 26 December.

The Albertina stands between the State Opera, Kärntnerstraße and the Hofburg, so the old town markets are close. Take the U1, U2 or U4 to Karlsplatz/Oper, or trams 1, 2, D, 62 or 71 to Kärntner Ring/Oper. The dates below are from the Vienna Tourist Board's market listings.

Klimt's The Kiss is not at the Albertina: it hangs in the Upper Belvedere, which has its own market outside. The museum normally opens daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and needs a time slot; check its own page for holiday changes on the 24th and 31st. More in our Albertina or Belvedere guide.

What should you know before an Albertina visit at Christmas?

Buy ahead, bring ID for reduced prices and leave big bags in the lockers. There is no time slot, so pick your holiday day freely.

• Prices 2026: EUR 20.90 at the Albertina, EUR 17.90 at Albertina Modern, EUR 29.90 for the combined ticket. Under 19 free, which helps families.
• No time slot: an advance ticket is valid for one entry on any opening day within a year. The confirmation e-mail can take up to one business day, so do not leave it to the morning of the 24th.
• Queues: lines outside are still possible with a ticket in hand, so build in a few minutes.
• Coats and bags: backpacks and umbrellas stay out of the galleries. Free lockers on Level -1, or the paid cloakroom.
• A present: a year of validity also makes the ticket an easy gift for someone visiting Vienna in 2027.
