Booking choice: The Upper Belvedere ticket, from $26 per person. Check dates Tour details
A lot of visitors arrive at the Albertina expecting to find The Kiss. It is an easy mistake: both are big art museums in central Vienna, both hold Klimt, and both turn up in every top-ten list. But Klimt's golden painting belongs to the Belvedere and hangs in the Upper Belvedere, across town.
The good news is that the two museums pair well. The Albertina has no time slot, the Belvedere does, and tram D runs between them in four stops. Book the Belvedere slot first, then fit the Albertina around it.
The quick answer
The Kiss is in the Upper Belvedere at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 27, not in the Albertina. Entry costs EUR 23 at the palace in 2026 and needs a time slot. Take tram D from the Opera, four stops to Schloss Belvedere. The Albertina's Klimt works are drawings, kept in storage and shown only in special exhibitions.
Where can I see Klimt's The Kiss in Vienna?
In the Upper Belvedere, in the Belvedere's permanent collection. The palace is at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 27 in the 3rd district, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Kiss (Der Kuss) is oil with gold leaf on canvas, painted in 1907 and 1908 at the height of what is called Klimt's Golden Period. It is square, about 180 by 180 cm, so it reads well even with a crowd in front. You find it in the Vienna 1900 rooms, one floor up from the entrance level, among other Klimts and the Schieles.
It is part of the Belvedere's permanent display, Picture this! The Belvedere Collection from Cranach to Lassnig, which means the standard Upper Belvedere ticket covers it. The Upper Belvedere ticket on GetYourGuide is sold by the Belvedere itself, from $26 (4.6 from 18,370 reviews).

Entry to the Upper Belvedere and its permanent collection with a time slot: The Kiss, the Klimt rooms and the baroque Marble Hall.
Explore the Upper Belvedere ticket Tour detailsIs The Kiss at the Albertina?
No. The Albertina's Klimt holdings are drawings in its graphic collection. They are light-sensitive, so they stay in storage and come out only for special exhibitions.
The Albertina's graphic art collection, over one million drawings and prints, runs from Michelangelo and Dürer to Klimt and Schiele. The museum says plainly that these masterpieces cannot be shown permanently because light damages them. The last big Klimt drawings show, in 2022, gathered around 100 works. On a normal day you will not see them on the walls.
What you will see at the Albertina is the 20 Habsburg State Rooms, Monet to Chagall with its long run of Picassos, and this season's Picasso - Bacon until 31 January 2027. Klimt is not among the names the museum lists for Monet to Chagall. What to see at the Albertina has the full rundown.
The Albertina side of the day: State Rooms, Monet to Chagall and Picasso - Bacon, no time slot.

Yes. The Belvedere requires time slots at all its venues. An adult ticket for the Upper Belvedere costs EUR 23 at the palace in 2026, and once you are in you can stay as long as you like.
The slot is your entry time, not a limit on your visit, per the Belvedere. The GetYourGuide listing asks you to be at the entrance 15 minutes before your slot. Large bags and luggage cannot be stored, but there are free lockers at all Belvedere venues. Food, drink and selfie sticks are not allowed, per the listing.

Albertina or Belvedere: which is better?
For Klimt and Austrian art, the Belvedere. For Habsburg rooms, Monet to Picasso and big changing shows, the Albertina. With a day free, do both.
The Belvedere is a baroque palace built for Prince Eugene of Savoy, with gardens over three terraces and a collection running from the Middle Ages to now. The Klimt rooms are the draw, with Schiele close behind. The Albertina is a classicist palace on the old city wall with the State Rooms, the Batliner Collection of modern masters and four halls of temporary exhibitions.

Where else can you see Klimt in Vienna?
The Leopold Museum in the MuseumsQuartier, the Beethoven Frieze in the Secession, and the Klimt Villa, his last studio, in the 13th district.
The Beethoven Frieze is in the Secession building, a short walk from Albertina Modern on Karlsplatz, which makes it an easy add-on to an Albertina day. The Leopold Museum holds Klimt alongside one of the largest Schiele collections. The Klimt Villa in Hietzing is the restored studio where some of his late drawings were likely made.
For the paintings, though, the Belvedere is the place: its own listing calls it the world's largest Klimt collection. If you want a guide to explain the gold, the Belvedere guided tour is the one to look at.

Should you take a guided tour to see The Kiss?
If you want the stories behind the paintings, yes. The skip-the-line guided tour of the Upper Belvedere takes 1.5 hours, with a licensed guide and headphones.
The Belvedere guided tour by Good Vienna Tours starts at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 27, from $59 (4.8 from 319 reviews). The regular tour takes up to 24 people; small-group and private options exist too. Arrive on time: there are no refunds for late arrivals or no-shows. One recent guest summed it up:
★★★★★The tour guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, the flow of the tour kept me engaged at all times. It is great for someone who is interested in art but does not know a lot about art history!
