Albertina Museum Entry Ticket

About this experience

This is the standard way in, and the provider on the listing is the Albertina itself. One ticket opens the whole museum for one visit: the 20 restored Habsburg State Rooms, where archdukes lived for about 100 years, Monet to Chagall (the Batliner Collection, on loan to the museum since 2007), and every temporary exhibition on that day. Right now that means Picasso - Bacon, Her Story, Shara Hughes and Otto Meets Albertina, with Arnulf Rainer opening on 12 November.

There is no time slot. The listing shows "Valid 1 - 365 days", which matches the museum's own rule: a ticket bought in advance is good for one entry during opening hours, any day within a year. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday. A queue outside is still possible on busy days, even with a ticket on your phone.

A few things the ticket does not cover. Albertina Modern is a separate building on Karlsplatz with its own Albertina Modern ticket. The audio guide costs extra. Backpacks and umbrellas are not allowed in the galleries, so use the free lockers on Level -1. Dürer's famous Hare is usually shown as a copy at the end of the State Rooms, because the light-sensitive original lives in storage. Special events can close parts of the State Rooms now and then. Looking for Klimt's The Kiss? It is not at the Albertina. It hangs in the Upper Belvedere, and the Upper Belvedere ticket has a time slot.

  • The 20 Habsburg State Rooms: Hall of the Muses, Wedgwood Cabinet, Gold Cabinet and more
  • Monet to Chagall: Degas, Cézanne, Monet, Chagall and a run of Picassos
  • Every temporary exhibition on the day, Picasso - Bacon included
  • No time slot: one entry on any day within a year
  • Open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays

★★★★★

I really like the way they displayed the paintings and the information given about them, connecting the artists and explaining the timeline. There are paintings from many famous artists there including Monet, Picasso, Miró, etc.

The Picasso-Bacon combination is excellent. We caught the temporary exhibition of Monet's works. It was impressive.

Tips before you book

  • Leave the backpack at the hotel, or plan five minutes for the free lockers on Level -1. Umbrellas are not allowed inside either.
  • Under 19s enter free. Visitors aged 65+ or under 26 get a reduced price at the museum, and must show ID with the ticket.
  • Go late. On Wednesday and Friday the museum stays open until 9 p.m., and the evenings are calmer than the late morning.
  • Want commentary? The museum rents a smartphone guide at the desk, or book the ticket with the WeGoTrip audio tour instead of this one.
  • Visiting for a special event day? The State Rooms can partly close. The museum's phone line (+43 1 534 83 500) can tell you about your date.
